Practicing Vulnerability
I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I would not still be in ministry and most likely would not be serving Jesus today if I did not have safe relationships in my life with out vulnerability.
Vulnerability is powerful, especially when a leader walks in humility and vulnerability.
Everything in us wants to hide behind walls of pride, accomplishments and accolades. Mostly because we are afraid to be vulnerable. The world teaches us to put our best foot forward.
If we truly allowed others into our lives and took off the religious masks, would I still be loved? Would I still be accepted?
All throughout Jesus’ ministry and time on earth, He associated with the least likely religious candidates. In fact, the Pharisees and Sadducees had issue with the fact that Jesus associated and spent time with sinners. But Jesus knew His mission! He came to seek and save that which was lost!
In working with students and leaders, the goal is to create safe spaces for individuals to practice vulnerability! Because when we are truly able to bring what is in the darkness and shadows of our hearts and lives, out into the light, it is only then that true acceptance, love, freedom and healing begin to happen!
Healing is a process, and it takes time. How quickly we want to give up when we don’t experience and see the results we want?
We are outward focused.
Jesus is inward focused. He looks at the heart.
Practicing vulnerability takes time. Practicing vulnerability takes courage. Practicing vulnerability is worth it!
