A new year brings such hopes and dreams for a fresh start. To say goodbye to a year that may represent some challenges, pain, grief, disappointment or perhaps some goals that you could not reach.
As I was pondering the new year and what it would look like, I was reminded of a scripture. In the midst of great devastation of the beloved city of Jerusalem, there was pain of injustice and human loss. Many of the same emotions we have shared during 2020. Fear, loneliness, hopelessness, crushing emotions, anger, death, and personal wounds.
Yet in the middle of that great destruction in Lamentations 3:21-23 the focus turned to the goodness of God –
“22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will wait for him.”
Often we use the new year as a launching point for the next season. Letting go of the past, looking forward. We can reset our mind and our spirit to energize us. There’s nothing like a fresh start! Just a reminder, we don’t have to wait for a new year. This is every morning for us. Start each day with a fresh anointing of God’s goodness remembering his faithfulness never ends.
