Just below the surface!

Today as I drove to work a song was playing on the radio. There was a phrase “…what will it look like when all the pain is gone”.  In an instant, tears begin flowing. I was engulfed in emotions. I thought, What pain? Where is this coming from? Then I realized it was accumulative. Life is full of pain just below the surface.  Everyone goes through it. But how do we package it, store it or deal with it.

There is a time when the memories arise. Don’t resist and don’t become a victim. Observe the pain, loss or hurt. Why and where does it hurt? Have you taken it to Jesus? Allow him to walk you through it. Allow the wound to be exposed. Perhaps share with a trusted friend and prayer partner.  Let the Lord do His healing, don’t try to cover it up, hide it, and allow it to fester. It can become toxic or spread to other healthy areas.

We can’t erase the events, but we can change how we allow ourselves to react.  Don’t pick at the scab but allow the healing to complete itself from the inside out. Once you have resolve with the pain then it no longer has vengeance on your emotions. Sure, there may be a scar. I have a scar on my hand from a hot hanger used over a fire to roast marshmallows. It happened when I was as a teen and it was very painful. Now when I notice the scar, I remember the event and agony, but I no longer feel the pain.

So many incidents in our lives can accumulate and get buried. We move on and don’t address them. The enemy works very hard to influence our thoughts to try and bring back the memories and pain so we can feel it as if it were fresh. It’s up to us how to deal with these circumstances. With thoughtful prayer, I am learning to identify and those areas and allow healing. Perhaps there are more things just below the surface. Is it time to look a little deeper?

Proverbs 4:23 (TPT)
23 So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are.
Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.
