Welcome to The Journey: From Shame to Intimacy with Christ! We’re so glad you’ve joined us for this life-changing course. Each session is designed to help you uncover God’s truth, confront hidden shame, and walk into the freedom and intimacy He desires for you. To get the most out of your experience, we encourage you to download the course material and follow along as you watch the video sessions. The manual includes scriptures, reflection questions, and practical tools to support your healing journey. So grab your Bible, your journal, and your course guide—and let’s begin this powerful journey together.
In Session One, we explore God’s original design for the parent-child relationship, where parents are called to unconditionally meet their child’s physical and emotional needs, and children are shaped through imitation. When this design is disrupted—through unmet needs, harsh words, or emotional neglect—shame can take root, distorting a child’s sense of identity and worth. This session lays the foundation for understanding how shame enters our lives and begins the journey toward healing by rediscovering God’s intention for blessing, identity, and relational wholeness.
In Session Two, we examine the family as one of God’s most precious gifts—designed to shape us for both this life and eternity. Families operate as systems, and the “rules” within them, whether spoken or unspoken, deeply impact how children understand relationships, emotions, and themselves. When communication breaks down and painful topics are avoided, children may internalize shame, fear, or anxiety, believing their struggles are unacceptable. This session explores how God intended family systems to function in wholeness, and how His truth can realign broken patterns to help us flourish as He designed.
In Session Three, we explore the concept of generational iniquity—the patterns of sin and dysfunction passed down through family systems, often without question or awareness. Using a simple story about a mother cutting the ends off a ham, we see how family behaviors can persist long after their original purpose is forgotten. Similarly, harmful attitudes and actions can become deeply ingrained “norms” within families, shaping how we view ourselves and the world. This session helps us identify the inherited spiritual and emotional systems that may be fueling our struggles and lays the groundwork for breaking free from these generational cycles through God’s truth and healing.
In Session Four, we uncover how unspoken family rules—like “don’t talk,” “don’t trust,” and “don’t feel”—can shape a child’s understanding of reality and self-worth, often leading to deep-rooted shame. Through a powerful story, we see how denial and emotional suppression within a family can cause someone to question their own experiences and even their sanity. This session explores how such rules take root in our lives and how they distort our ability to trust others, ourselves, and even God. Most importantly, we begin to see how Jesus offers a path to healing, restoring trust and truth where shame once ruled.
In Session Five, we continue exploring the impact of shame-based family systems by taking a deeper, grace-filled look at how our families of origin have shaped the way we relate to ourselves, others, and God. Building on the “don’t talk, don’t touch, don’t trust” rules discussed previously, this session emphasizes that this journey is not about blame, but about truth-seeking. With courage and God’s perspective, we can begin to recognize unhealthy patterns from our past and allow His truth to bring freedom, healing, and renewed hope for the future.
In Session Six, we examine the deeper roots of shame and how unresolved relational patterns from our families of origin can continue to shape our adult behavior, often opening the door to deception, pride, and spiritual oppression. Without spiritual and emotional awareness, we may unknowingly follow harmful patterns instead of God’s truth. This session helps us identify how shame operates in our lives and challenges us to “put off the old self” as Ephesians 4:22 urges. Most importantly, we begin to uncover foundational truths that lead us out of shame and into greater freedom and intimacy with Christ.
In Session Seven, we are invited to reflect honestly on whether we’ve chosen to confront the “Shame Creators” in our lives—the lingering lies, wounds, and excuses that keep us from walking in freedom. This final session emphasizes that healing is not a destination but a lifelong journey with God, one that requires courage, intentionality, and daily surrender. As shame begins to break, hope takes root, and we are empowered to embrace the identity and purpose God has always intended for us. With the promise of Philippians 1:6, we move forward knowing that God will complete the good work He began in us.
