God Loves All Three: Body, Soul, and Spirit
I wanted to share a piece of my journey with you—something the Lord has been deeply working into my heart over the last few years.
In Genesis 2:7, we are given a beautiful, foundational truth about how we were made:
“…then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.”
Think about God’s divine order.
First, God meticulously shaped our physical bodies. Then, He breathed His own eternal Spirit into us. And when that heavenly breath met the earthly dust, a living soul was born—our thoughts, our memories, and our emotions. We are a three-part masterpiece: body, soul, and spirit.
Growing up in the church, almost every sermon and lesson I heard revolved strictly around the “spiritual” side of faith. We were taught how to pray, how to study Scripture, and how to guard our spirits. But while I was sitting in those pews, I was quietly drowning in physical and mental exhaustion. My thoughts and emotions felt like a constant battlefield, under heavy attack from both internal struggles and external pressures.
I desperately needed practical, Biblical guidance on how to navigate my mental health and physical well-being, but the pulpit was largely silent on those things. Because of that silence, I assumed these were secular problems I had to fix on my own. I tried, and I failed, for a very long time.
After years of what felt like wasted time and endless frustration, I finally reached my breaking point. I cried out to God in utter desperation for help.
In the quietness of waiting on Him, He brought me right back to Genesis 2:7. He spoke comfort to my weary heart and said:
“I created all three, I love all three, take care of all three.”
That moment changed everything for me. It gave me a profound sense of spiritual freedom. I realized that God doesn’t just care about our church attendance or our quiet times; He cares about our bodies, our chemistry, our mental health, and our emotional wounds. He designed us as whole beings.
To love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength means we cannot ignore the parts of us that are broken or hurting. We must steward and care for our physical bodies and our emotional health with the same reverence we give to our spiritual lives. If you have been secretly struggling, please know you don’t have to compartmentalize your pain. God sees, loves, and wants to heal every single layer of who you are.
A Prayer for Wholeness
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the intentional, loving way You created us. Thank You that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, from the dust of the earth to the breath of Your Spirit. Lord, forgive us for the times we have neglected the bodies or the minds You gave us, or treated them as separate from our walk with You.
I pray for my brothers and sisters reading this today. Where there is physical exhaustion, grant them rest and healing. Where there is emotional trauma, anxiety, or mental warfare, let Your perfect peace rule their hearts. Remind them that You love every single part of who they are. Give us the wisdom, the tools, and the courage to take care of our whole self, so that we may serve You with our whole lives. We love You, and we rest in Your complete care.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
